Need 2 Succeed, in partnership with Derbyshire County Council, is offering you the opportunity to study, for free, for a nationally recognised and accredited qualification in youth work practice through our Level 2 or Level 3 pathways. We have set out below all the information you need to understand what's involved and how to apply for a place.
We have designed this page to provide you with information about the training programme and the application process. Please note that these courses are free, but you will need approval from Derbyshire County Council and your line manager to secure your spot.
These programmes are recognised by both the NYA and JNC (at level 3) and accredited by the Skills and Education Group Awards, which serves as the awarding body and our industry partner for youth work practice in the UK.

"The teaching took me about 7 months, with final units and certification 2 months later. The course was delivered entirely online, with monthly training days to attend, but I know they also hold live classes. I was also supported by my assessor for 1-to-1 sessions and assessment. She was really helpful, and she also came and visited me in the centre."
"Yes, my qualification at Level 2 is nationally recognised, and at Level 3 (which I have now moved on to), it is a recognised youth work qualification, endorsed by the National Youth Agency. This course is providing me with the opportunity to become professionally qualified and helping me move on in my career.”
"Your presence on this page is excellent news; it means you can apply for one of the listed courses for free, but please ensure you meet the requirements, as our colleagues at Derbyshire County Council will need to approve it."
The Level 2 Certificate usually costs £1475, and the Level 3 is £1675 - so the fact that it is free means so much more...."
"After you complete your studies, there are various things you can do. If you are doing Level 2, you can move straight over to level 3, and remember you can use the first 4 units of Level 2 towards your qualification, meaning you don't need to do them again.
If you take Level 3, Need 2 Succeed are now running a level 4 programme or you can move on to a university or apprenticeship degree programmes."
"Hi, my name is Jennie, and I used to work as a teaching assistant during the day on a fairly low wage and to supplement my income, I worked 2 sessions at a local youth club. On average, I was earning around £17-£18K a year, working around 40-45 hours a week.
Something had to change, so I decided to explore whether youth work was a career I really wanted to pursue, as I loved working with young people. So I went ahead and booked a session with Ange, one of Need 2 Succeed's advisors, who helped me explore all aspects of my career goals and the best course pathway to take.
I settled on the Level 2 programme, and after 9 months, I passed with flying colours. This meant two things for me.
One: I was now nationally qualified, meaning my hourly rate went up.
Two: I was able to reduce my hours at the school and take on more sessions at my youth centre, where I now lead a few sessions.
I have now embarked on my Level 3, and as a bonus, because I completed my Level 2, the first 4 units count towards my Level 3, meaning I'm already through, and I've only just started!
Don't put it off. I love my job as a youth worker. Come and join me!"
